Professorship for Energy Technology (Prof. Dr. Kainz)

Increasing the efficiency of today’s processes of energy generation and conversion is a central building block for the success of the energy system transformation. The main focus of research at the Professorship for Energy Technology is the improvement and optimisation of energy processes. Comprehensive simulation models help to understand the mode of action in detail and to identify potential savings. The aim is to exploit these potentials through smart control strategies and to make a contribution to sustainable development. Together with industrial partners such as Continental Automotive GmbH in Regensburg, we are working on operating combustion engines more efficiently.

Fields of research

  • Engine process simulation on a biogas Otto engine
  • Development of new regulation and control strategies for energetic systems
  • Use of regenerative fuels in combustion engines

Successful PhD examination at TUMCS

On Tuesday, 28.02.2023 Simon Härtl (formerly HSWT) successfully passed his viva at TUMCS as part of his cooperative doctorate (TUM – HSWT).

For this purpose, he also presented the summary of his thesis “Efficiency increase in gasoline engine through use of series cylinder pressure sensors“.

During his time as a doctoral student at the TUM Campus in Straubing,
Mr. Härtl worked on increasing the efficiency of gasoline engines by using cylinder pressure sensors suitable for series production. In particular, knock detection and lean burn control are the key points to be mentioned here.
